Easter English Exam 🥚✨

Zadanie 1. Rozumienie tekstu pisanego 📖

An Easter project that changed our plans

A few weeks before Easter, our English teacher asked the class to prepare ideas for a school event connected with spring traditions in different countries. At first, most students wanted to organise something simple, like a poster competition or a cake sale. However, one group suggested preparing an interactive “Easter trail” for younger students. The idea was to create several stations with short tasks, puzzles and cultural facts about Easter in Britain, the USA and Poland.

To my surprise, the teacher chose our idea. I was happy, but I also realised how much work it would require. My job was to prepare a station about Easter symbols. I made a quiz about rabbits, eggs and hot cross buns, and I had to explain why these things are associated with Easter in English-speaking countries. I also wanted my station to be fun, so I added a guessing game in which children had to match short descriptions with pictures.

The event took place on the Wednesday before Easter. Younger students arrived in small groups and moved from one station to another. Some of them were shy at first, especially when they had to answer questions in English, but after a few minutes they became more confident. The most popular station was the Easter egg hunt prepared in the school garden, although the weather was colder than we had expected.

At the end of the day, our teacher asked us what we had learned from the experience. For me, the most important lesson was that organising an event is much more difficult than simply taking part in one. Still, it was worth the effort because the younger students enjoyed it and our class worked together surprisingly well.

I used to think Easter was a bit boring because every year we did almost the same things. We cleaned the house, visited relatives and ate far too much cake. This year, however, my parents suggested spending Easter Sunday in a completely different way. After breakfast, instead of sitting at home all day, we went for a long walk in the forest near our town. It turned out to be the best part of the whole weekend.

Text C 📧

Hi Alex, You asked what Easter Monday is like in Poland. Well, one popular tradition is throwing water at other people. It sounds strange, but many children and teenagers love it. Personally, I think it’s fun only when the weather is warm and everyone agrees to join in. Last year my little cousin poured a whole cup of water on me before breakfast, and I was not amused at all. Take care, Marta

Last Easter, my cousin from Ireland came to stay with us for a few days. He had visited Poland before, but never during spring holidays, so everything seemed new to him. On Easter Saturday, my mum spent most of the day preparing food, while my dad and I cleaned the garden because the weather forecast for Sunday was excellent.

On Easter morning, my cousin was surprised that breakfast was such an important part of the celebration. He expected a normal family meal, but there were so many dishes on the table that he took photos before we started eating. He especially liked the cakes, although he said that some traditional food looked unusual to him.

The funniest moment came on Easter Monday. We tried to explain Śmigus-Dyngus to him, but I don’t think he believed us at first. Then my younger brother came into the kitchen with a plastic bottle of water and everything became clear. Luckily, my cousin had a good sense of humour and joined the game almost immediately. By the afternoon, everyone was wet, tired and laughing.

When he left on Tuesday, he said that Easter in Poland was more active and surprising than he had expected.
